There are many types of holiday home available for hire these days; holiday cottages and bungalows probably still top the list but with variants like castles, Napoleonic pill boxes; renovated railway cottages and even an old signalling box was seen advertised as a change from the norm. The days of just opening up a spare room and letting it for a few pounds a week, towels and hot water thrown in are now well and truly behind us. Punters want the full mcCoy – central heating and air conditioning, weather dependant ….. modern facilities but withi historic olde worlde charm; plenty of old characteristics like beams, a thatched roof, inglenook fireplace with log burner . . . and pre-requisie these days – wifi available in all rooms! Sometimes the latter is a struggle; thick stone walls and the invisible but essential wifi don’t work well together. But the homely feel of a holiday cottage is really special and something we should treasure.
